Reading John P_tric's review of a Rush concert, gives me the same feeling I had when the Ku Klux Klan burnt a cross in my family's front yard. So I didn't actually read it. "Milosevic, Saddam, now Rush" seemed like a hatchet job to me. I don't read P_tric's reviews much like I don't listen to crack addicts when they beg for money. Your readers must of sensed this situation went from mildly amusing years ago to down right deranged. Does he hate power trios or just Canadians? Is he mad at the fact a progressive metal ensemble has been selling out stadiums of thirty freaking years? Is it because Rush is two thirds Jewish? Now that I think of it, Geddy Lee's parents were survivors of concentration camps at Dachau. Hasn't Geddy been though enough abuse already? I'm not saying P_tric is anti semitic, I'm saying he wants to deny Rush's right to exist. Who's to say what sets off a sociopath.
I have to remind myself that this is the same John P_tric who was fired from the Columbus Dispatch for plagiarism. Apparently he'd take quotes out of other interviews and made it like he asked the questions. Legend has it, John would write about shows he's never attended. He would hear that a band had a violin player and write that the guy played well, even though the violin player was actually in the hospital with a broken leg. This happened twice. What are the odds that John P_tric would write about a show he didn't attend, say the violin player played well when he was in reality, lying in a hospital bed? That crazy scenario happened twice.
Besides being busted for making things up and not showing up, I also remember John as a frustrated guitar player. He'd twang away in the band called the Hoot Owls with his greasy pompadour, signature shit eating grin, eyes too close together. That band actually made rockabilly boring. The transition into middle aged record store know-it all-must of been a rough one. Combining abusive crappy daytime TV aesthetics and rock journalism for a free paper seemed like a good gimmick, but I'm sure it doesn't pay too well. We all can be mean and judge mental at times. When I saw John dancing at that Budos Band gig last month, I thought he was learning disabled and effeminate,. Then again, maybe that's just the way he dances.
Meanwhile Rush plays to 60,000 fans and has their latest album debut at #3 on the Billboard charts. It's not fair, is it? I'm beginning to see a pattern. Green with envy.
The sad truth is there are a hundred bloggers doing his schtick and all one has to do is enter something like "RUSH IN RIO" on You Tube to figure out what a Rush show is like. If John P_tric continues crashing the party every tour, I suggest Rush gets a court order and treat him like the creepy stalker he's become.
